This is such an easy recipe and it is so delicious. I love the messy yet beautiful look of holiday bark!
All you need is:
- 1.5 lb semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1.5 lb. white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup light cream
- Half a bag of mint M & M’s
- 10 Oreos
- Peanut Butter (optional)
I used a 15.25″ x 10.25″ size cookie sheet. Make sure to line with parchment or wax paper – uou do not want to be chiseling chocolate off of your pan, trust me it’s not fun. You can get away with only 1 lb of semi-sweet and 1 lb of white chocolate chips with this size cookie sheet but if your cookie sheet is any larger you want to stick with 1.5 lb or your bark will be really thin.
First, get your toppings ready and smash up your Oreos and your M & M’s. Set aside and melt the semi-sweet chips in a double-boiler. If you don’t have one use a sauce pan and fill with water and bring to a boil. Place a bowl that is big enough to balance on top and not fall in the pan.
Pour the chips into the bowl and melt them slowly while consistently stirring. Once the water is boiling you can turn the heat down – the steam will be enough to melt the chocolate. Keep stirring and add in a 1/4 cup of the light cream. Add bit here and there throughout the melting process. If the the chocolate is starting to really stick add a little cream but keep it to no more than 1/4 cup total. This is where you can add in the peanut butter if you choose to. I like to add in about 5 tablespoons of chunky peanut butter. There’s nothing better than a bite with a nice burst of salty peanuts. Once its smooth and totally melted spread it over the lined cookie sheet and make it as even as possible. Now pop in the freezer for about 15 minutes until it hardens. While it’s hardening melt the white chocolate.
Go through the same process. Once it is melted spread on top of the hardened dark chocolate. Immediately sprinkle your Oreo and M & M mixture over the top while the chocolate is still wet. This is very important or else they will not adhere and they will fall off. Put back in the freezer until it hardens. I keep in overnight usually but you don’t have to – it can be ready as soon as it hardens.
Once you are ready to break it apart just peel the parchment or wax paper off the cookie sheet and break it up! Enjoy!
